We're back from Vegas and pretty excited about what Andi's Closet has in store for spring. Yes spring. I know it's hard to even think that far ahead, but nonetheless we're very pleased with what we bought.

Vegas was (as predicted) very hot and busy, but we did manage to spend some time by the pool :)

After years of mini skirts, boxy silhouettes, and your boyfriend jeans, fashion designers are taking a sharp turn away from these once trendy styles and are moving into longer hemlines, bodice cuts, and cinched waistlines. You may be showing less leg, but that is what makes it sexy. With these new styles there is a bit mystery and class. Does this mean I'm going throw out my jeans and billowing blouses? No, but I will be balancing out my wardrobe with clothes that flatter my figure and keep in mind that the greatest beauties of our time we're also the classiest.

This one is by far my favorite:" This a picture of my mother Willy van Rooy and me in Paris, I'm guessing the year must be 1970 or 71 at the most (I was born in 68). Apart from being an iconic model in the 60's and 70's who worked with the best photographers and designers, my mother was, and still is, a person with an amazing and very individual fashion sense (which later in life led her to become a successful fashion and shoe designer). I never remember her following fashion or buying clothes off-the-rack."

Refiner29 recently covered lipstick trends straight from spring Fashion Week. Personally I have been trying really hard to wear more lip color. It makes me feel put together and girly. My favorites right now are coral and nudes. Corals go great with pretty much any skin tone and nudes add a subtle sophistication element.

From the runway to the street the side braid it popping up everywhere. Alexander Wang's runway show really brought this new trend light and I must say I am LOVING it. Andrea and just returned from going to a buying show in NYC. We we're buying for this coming fall and I think you will really like what's coming (check out that coat Andrea is wearing from Tracy Reese)! We spent most of our time at the show, but did manage to go have some fun including having a wonderful dinner at the Belgian restaurant Resto, where we each ordered a pail (literally) of yummy mussels and frites. We also had a chance to check out the American Beauty exhibit at the FIT museum which was very inspiring!

As far fall trends go. Here is a glimpse of what is going to be really big this autumn:

-Khaki pants :a lot of the denim lines were really pushing these. Most of them we're a straight to skinny leg.

-Cargo pants :again, a lot of these were on a skinny or even legging body. Not sure I felt about them.

- Strong shoulders : everywhere! From a basic tank to a sweater, I saw a ton of shoulder pads; ruched shoulders, or slightly pointed ones.

-Embellished shoulders: not only padded, but I noticed a lot of detail focused on shoulders from razzle dazzle stones to military type adornments.

-Lace: this was everywhere too. Lots of shirts and blouses had lace detail or a cut-out with small lace patch.

-Slouchy trouser: Usually cropped with loose pockets. I really liked theses!

-Fabric insets on denim: Some of the fashion denim would be distressed and under the distressing would be some sort of printed fabric from stripes to liberty print. We actually have a Seven's distressed jean in the shop now with this look.

-Dress Shorts: We'll be seeing a lot of tweed and velvet shorts paired with tights this fall for sure!

-Stripes: Still really big!

A lot of my fashion inspiration comes right off the street rather than from the runway. There are a lot of stylish and fashionable folks out there. Whether they're wearing something you absolutely adore or wearing something you wouldn't be caught dead in, you might surprise yourself and pick up a little tip or idea from them. That's why I am starting this new segment called "off the street". The people or clothes in these pictures may not be from Andi's Closet, but they will inspire you to go beyond your comfort zone and try something new. Below are some photographs of some stylish women from the site Copenhagen Street Style. I chose these ones because I really loved how they used layers and all sported a knit scarf. There's nothing like looking stylish and making it look so effortless. They look fashionable, yet are wearing clothes pratical for the season and look great doing so.

I find that out of all the presents you open at Christmas time, the stocking is the best part. Even little things can make a big surprise and Andi's Closet has some great stuffers this season. Voluspa makes some great candles. Not only is packaging lovely, but they smell soooooooo good.
Hanky Panky is the best underwear HANDS DOWN. Once you've tried on a pair you won't want anything else. These cute little "bon bons" were practically made for her stocking.

The Sweater Dress: Just like your little black dress or favorite pair of jeans the sweater dress is considered something every woman (especially those in MN!) should own. There are many ways to wear the sweater dress this season. Wear them with black leggings or tights for a casual look, or with tall leather boots for a fashionable look that's great for winter. Belt the dress if its a looser fit, and be sure not to layer too much so you don't hide your silhouette.

Boyfriend Blazer: The blazer is something that isn't worn just 9-5 anymore. It has become an integral part of everyday wardrobe and winter is a great time to try it out. Embellishments: This holiday season is a great way to take advantage of all the embellishments seen in today's fashions .They are being put on everything from shirts to shoes. You can wear an embellished tank under a simple cardigan for work or school, or pair it with a leather jacket or boyfriend blazer at night for an edgier look. Keep the look to a minimal with skinny jeans or leggings along with some great booties for winter. And remember- keep it simple, you don't want to look like an ornament this season!

Last Thursday was a great success! The dressing rooms were full, cupcakes and cookies were gobbled up, and fashionable ladies were indulging in this seasons trends. {mmm....cupcakes from the exchange bakery and cake cookies!}

Not all of us were blessed with having long legs like Gisele's (including myself). At a mere 5'6 I have to hem close to 4 inches off most denim jeans I buy. When some of my favorite lines such as Joe's and Citizens started making petite jeans I jumped for joy, and now you can too because Andi's Closet carries them! Petite fits are just like the real deal but have a higher knee break giving the illusion of longer legs, and the inseam is 30" so you can skip the trip to the tailors :)

Over 10 years ago BCBG Max Azria bought Paris fashion house Herve Leger. Herve Leger is known for creating smooth and banded silhouettes that compliment and sculpt a woman's figure. One of their spring '09 skirts made a big impact in the fashion world and soon women across the globe wanted Herve Leger's signature bandage miniskirt (below). I'm not gonna lie or try to ignore the fact that its getting colder in Duluth. I haven't seen the sun in about a week and I can no long go sockless in my house. I've learned to embrace Duluth winters and wearing the right coat seems to help (especially venturing outside when its -30). Down and wool are pretty much a MUST in Duluth if you want to stay warm. That's why I was so excited to come across this line based out of Montreal (they understand harsh winters too!). Soia & Kyo (pronounced "Soya & Key-Oh" not only use quality wool and down, but they're actually cute and flattering on! Stylish AND practical. What's not to love?! Stylemax Chicago

Andrea and I just came back from Stylemax Chicago where we finished buying for early summer, late spring. It was my first trip to the windy city and I loved it! The show was a success as we found a few new lines we are both excited about (I will share more on that later). Although the market took up the day, we did manage to explore and have fun during the evening. Here is a glimpse of our Chicago trip: {The showroom floor filled with different lines}
